Ganesh Chaturthi Festival

Ganesh chaturthi or Vinayaka Chaturti is one of the well known Hindu festivals of India having great importance. It is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesha, the God of wisdom. Ganesh Chaturthi falls on the fourth day of the Hindu month of Bhadrapada, which falls around August or September. It is celebrated from 4th day of new moon/shukla paksha chaturthi of Bhadrapada for next eleven days till anant chaturdasi. Ganapati Atharvashirsha describes this Chaturthi as ‘Chaturthyamanshnan Japati’. Chaturthi means fourth stage. Ganapati is beyond three stages of human body i.e. awakened stage, dreaming stage & a middle stage between these two stages. When Ganesh is in his Turia Means fourth stage, one can have his darshan. This Chaturthi has special importance and is very dear to Shri Ganesh.

Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations

Ganesh chaturthi is celebrated with Vigorous and enthusiastic enjoyment. Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chaturti is the most important festival for Marathis in the country as Durga Puja for Bengalis, Onam for Malayalees and Pongal for Tamilians. Hence, the festival is celebrated with great fanfare across Maharashtra.

Lord Ganesha

The term Ganesha stems from the root ‘Gana’ which means the hosts or troops of demigods especially referring to the retinue of Lord Shiva and the term ‘Isha’ means ‘ruler’ or ‘lord’. Hence the term Ganesha means “the Lord of the demigods”. He is known to be the Lord of Power and Wisdom.

Son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati

Lord Ganesha is the eldest son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and elder brother of Skanda or Kartikeya. He has as his vehicle a small mouse. He is the Lord who is believed to remove all obstacles on the path of the spiritual aspirant, and bestows upon him worldly as well as spiritual success. He is the Lord of Harmony and Peace.

Puja On Ganesha Chaturthi.

It is preferable to do Ganesha puja on the Chaturthi day at the noon, however you can perform the pooja as per your wish when all the members of your family are present. For Ganesh Chaturthi pooja following items are required- A Clay image of Lord Ganesha, flowers, druva grass blades, sweets (preferably Modak), coconut, sandalwood paste and incense sticks. Ganesh Chaturthi Puja commences with the placing of idol on a raised horizontal surface and giving it a bathe with Panchamrit, after that pray to Lord Ganesh and recite all the mantras or bhajans dedicated to Lord Ganesha. To invoke Lord Ganesha the mantra can be found in the Rig Veda and is part of Ganesh Suktha. Do not exceptionally elaborate the rituals of the Puja rather all you need to do is pray with a clean heart and pious objective.It is believed that worshipping Lord Ganesha during the festival will remove all obstacles and bring Good luck with Prosperity to the family.
